Adoption par la Commission européenne de la proposition de révision du règlement relatif aux nouveaux aliments

La Commission européenne a adopté, le 14 janvier 2008, une proposition de révision du règlement relatif aux nouveaux aliments afin de faciliter la mise sur le marché d'aliments nouveaux et innovants dans l'Union européenne (UE), tout en maintenant un niveau élevé de protection des consommateurs. Cette proposition de règlement soumet les nouveaux aliments à une procédure d'autorisation plus simple qui devrait permettre une commercialisation plus rapide des aliments innovants ne présentant aucun risque. Ainsi, à l'avenir, la demande d'autorisation sera adressée à la Commission européenne et l'Autorité européenne de sécurité des aliments (EFSA) qui effectuera l'évaluation scientifique du produit. Si le produit est jugé sûr, la Commission soumettra une proposition d'autorisation de celui-ci aux Etats membres par la voie du Comité permanent de la chaîne alimentaire et de la santé animale.
